Upgraded to PS Plus extra - Instant remorse
Like keeps teaching lessons, and some times you relearn the very lesson you preach to others.
We all know impulse buy always results in remorse, in some form or another.
How it happened?
I wanted to cancel my PS plus subscription because over the past 2 years things have been crazy between tech layoffs keeping me in a constant state of anxiety and wanting to spend time with my toddler.
So right as I logged in to cancel my subscription I got a mail from PSN that my subscription has been renewed until next year. A vague conversation with my friend that there is a decent catalog for PS plus made me impulse upgrade my subscription to plus meaning I spent an additional $49 to upgrade to PS plus.
In my defense I did do a small mental calcuation, most games kind of retail around $40-$69 on average depending on whether or not you buy it in sale. By that calculation I thought if I could play 3 games from the catalog - I can consider it a win for getting the plus.
But the one other thing I should have done was to check the catalog first before subscribing, turns out there aren’t a lot of good titles in the catalog. It is mostly games that PS gives as part of PS plus for most part. And if you factor in PS5 only games then the list shrinks by ~50% 😢.
I did identify 2 games so far that might soften the blow for me1. But looking back I could have just gotten the games I wanted to plat at deal during black friday instead of subscribing to PS plus.
A boring Black Friday?
There is seldom good stuff that you can get on Black Friday. I should probably define what I mean by good stuff, it is usually the latest tech in the config I am looking for. And that never really happens. It is usually tech/stuff that is atleast a generation older.
But even so, there will be some silly purchases I would do. My usual black friday deal searches would be for laptop, phones, earbuds, headphones, keyboards, tablet deals. For good or bad, since I moved to the Apple ecosystem all of that is gone. I am happy with my iphone 14 pro, AirPods pro 2, sony headphones and iPad mini. Since I sold my DSLR, I am no longer looking at camera lenses to purchase. I used to look for killer deals on 24-105mm canon lens, which I never really got :P.
Everything I want is too expensive and not on sale. And everything that is on sale I probably don’t want/need.
