I finally got the opportunity to try out and play with the camera control on the newest iphone 16. No I didn’t upgrade to iphone 16, in case you were wondering.
My thoughts after probably 5 minutes of using it
- The camera control is nice to quickly access the camera app. Freeing up the spot in the lock screen while still giving you quick access to camera.
- For the short period that I used it, I felt pretty comfortable with the haptic control on the camera control. It could also be reviews out on the internet suggesting otherwise that you need to play around with the haptic control to get used to it, but I felt quite comfortable without needing much of an orientation.
- The fact that I still need to touch the screen to focus on my subject raises the question if I really need the camera control.
- We can label it all we want but at the end of it the camera control is a haptic camera button.
As I already noted while much of the smart evolution has been around reducing the number of physical buttons it is interesting to see Apple go the opposite direction. Previously the action button and now camera button.
The introduction of the camera control seems in some sense forced in what I would otherwise consider nill reason to upgrade. Even with it I am going to hold out and wait for the next iteration.
