Week of Apple devices

Apple released an array of devices over the course of the week - iphone 17e, new Studio displays, Macbook Pro+Air with M5 pro and M5 max chips and finally Macbook Neo.

Let’s talk Neo

This was the device I was waiting for, because some part of me wanted the reboot for the earlier 12inch Air. But I knew it was wishful thinking since it would conflict with the iPad Pro.

It’s interesting to think about the Neo because I’m curious who it’s really targeted at.

Is the Apple Neo the answer for Windows users looking for a low-cost Apple device?

Is it the chromebook killer aimed at schools/school kids - K12 academia?

Until now, Apple has been viewed as a premium brand, so this shift is intriguing. Its shift into low cost laptop is an interesting paradigm shift from Apple. It makes you wonder if this shift might be driven by perhaps a flatline device sales, necessitating a need to move into this market where they could certainly see new users switching to Apple.

Whatever be the case as a consumer this is great news. I think this device would be great for most kind of interactions we do with our laptop - checking emails, sending texts, watching videos, listening to music, browsing on the internet and I think from the marketing video looks like you can do some light weight photo/video editing. So pretty much everything and anything but on a lower scale - which is pretty amazing at that price. I was already impressed with the Air at $999—it’s a great device even for developers

But I think, at $599, the Neo is just killer—especially considering how many people (myself included at one point) have complained about its 8GB RAM. The truth is, if you’re using it for tasks like email, browsing, or light content creation, it’s more than enough. I’d be curious to see if I, as a developer, could actually live with just the Neo and never miss my 64GB MacBook Pro. It’s hard to justify spending $599 + tax on something that doesn’t quite fit into my workflow… unless, of course, someone out there is feeling generous enough to sponsor me! 😉 Check out my Ko-Fi link below if you want to make that happen. 😄
