The switch is complete!

2 weeks back I finally decided and purchased the new Macbook Air M3 to complete me eco-system lock-in.

I had been deliberating this decision for a long time. I was thinking of getting a speced up mac mini and getting the basic air for portability but since Apple decided to not release the mac mini at the time of announcing the macbook air. Macbook air it was.

Macbook Air

I got the 24GB unified memory, 512GB storage option macbook air midnight. I had been salivating on the midnight from the time it was launched so it was just a no brainer when I decided to get the air. Yes I am aware that it is kind of a finger print magnet and it was hurting initially when I used to see my finger prints. But now I am used to it and can look past it, because the midnight is just that gorgeous to look at.

This is the entire spec:

Apple M3 chip with 8‑core CPU, 10‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine
24GB unified memory
512GB SSD storage
13.6-inch Liquid Retina display with True Tone²
1080p FaceTime HD camera
MagSafe 3 charging port
Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports
70W USB-C Power Adapter
Backlit Magic Keyboard with Touch ID - US English

thoughts…

Well, it is going to be pretty biased because I have been eager to complete my Apple switch. Having things just be synced without too much thinking is probably the bigest reason for my switch and I am enjoying it.

Handoff works well, my airpods just connect although I have a small issue which is it would be nice if there was a way for airpods to detect the proximity to the device. Since from time to time my phone and ipad get shared between my wife, my son and myself. When I am listening to something on the macbook if my someone else is using another device in a different room the airpods switches to it which is kind of annoying.

Another thing that I am enjoying beyond the touch id is how the macbook unlocks if I have my apple watch on my wrist. Small things again which improve QOL in a big way.

One thing though is the notch on the top. It doesn’t bother me from a design perspective except that I hate how the mouse pointer can go and hide behind the notch.

Premalu and Avesham

2 malayalam movies worth watching. One is action comedy(Avesham) and the other romance comedy. Avesham was a little dragy in the second half but easily discountable.

Removing the location information from images

More and more I think about my posts and blog the more I become critical about the cyber security . Recently I realized that I made a mistake not stripping out the location information from the images I posted on this blog (it has been rectified).

I resorted to removing exif data from the images using the following command.

exiftool -overwrite_original -all= *.jpeg

Use the following command if you want to remove just the gps information

exiftool -gps:all= -xmp:geotag= image.jpg
