Halfway point

I am pretty proud of myself, I have successfully reached the halfway point of my weekly post journey 🎉 .

Take aways:

  1. If at all there are any visitors to my blog(thank you!) It gives them a schedule on when to expect my posts(mostly Saturdays).
  2. I can now choose and schedule time for writing, because I need to only produce one post a week. And there is no reason for me to not write.
  3. It has gotten me into writing more regularly, as a first step would highly encourage this to anyone who wants to get into the habit of blogging. Bringing some structure to it. You can choose if you want to do a daily/weekly/bi-weekly or even monthly post depending on your cadence. But stick to it, try to make it a habit.
  4. It has gotten my juices flowing because I try to come up with creative things for the weekly posts. For now I am sticking to TTL(Through the Lens), Internet Heat Map, TIL(Today I Learned).
  5. Not to get hung up on numbers, when I started the weekly posts I leveraged social media(x, bluesky, mastodon) to garner readers/viewership. But soon got drunk on numbers from Google analytics. I was quick to course correct and to not obssess over the numbers. For past several weeks I stopped posting about the posts on any social media. The numbers are in low double digits but I am happy that it is organic(atleast hoping it is) rather than me using hashtags I know would help get that number up1.
  6. I reserve my micro blogging thoughts for this weekly posts. Although I do let some of them slip by because I forget to capture them somewhere.

Trying out Zed

I started using Zed and it instantly impressed me in how fast it opened up. I am currently using it only for my personal python scripts that I am developing to automate some of the mundane tasks I perform to sit down and compile a blogpost or this weekly posts. But I am already super impressed with its speed and relatively low memory footprint.

Need a workflow to edit or add posts from any device

One of the down sides of static sites is - the inability to add/edit/post from any device/anywhere. And for that reason I want to consider moving to Wordpress(if only there was a cheap option to host). Wordpress hosting on a custom domain is kind of expensive 2

Why I am not considering hosting it myself?

One of the charms of static sites is minimal maintainance. No need to update wordpress, no mysql migration, no plugins and any of that sorts. While I might consider it if I find myself wanting to add/edit/post from anywhere. Currently this is just a nice to have feature and isn’t really a pain point for me.

If anyone has a good/working workflow for posting/editing/adding posts from any device and anywhere I would love to learn about it.

Added Tags

Finally got around to adding the functionality for tags to the blog! Posts now have tags in them, clicking on any tag will give you all the posts related to that tag.

I had another field called categories in the front matter which is pretty useless. Its been a while since I had to sed. But I was still got it :)

sed -i "" '/^categories/d' posts/*.md

Watched the US presidential debate 🤐

Shaitan Movie ⭐️

Starring Ajay Devgan, Jyothika, Madhavan, it was just too disturbing with long drawn and too many torture scenes where I didn’t feel like wasting my time. An hour3 I spent on this movie was not worth going to bed late.

Internet Heat Map

  1. I noticed that use of #apple #iPhone gets more views.↩︎

  2. Costs more than what I am willing/paying at the moment.↩︎

  3. The movie is 2hours 12 mins but I didn’t hesitate to fast forwarding the torture scenes.↩︎
