Happy Hacking Keyboard Pro Hybrid - The end game?

I thought I was done with mechanical keyboard when I switched back to using qwerty. My go to while in the colemak land was/would always be the planck. I was happy with magic keyboard, until few weeks ago. When the arteus keyboard tempted me but after getting it, the keyboard didn’t quite feel right.

This time, I got swayed by HHKB pro hybrid. A much respected keyboard in the mechanical keyboard community. And I can see why.

The HHKB pro hybrid is a 60% mechanical keyboard, and comes with Topre switches. It can be operated in bluetooth or wired mode. In bluetooth mode you can connect and switch between 4 devices.

Having been a cherry mx brown faithful, I am really enjoying the topre swtiches. It has a right amount of force, tactility and sound profile. While some might find the sound profile little mushy, I am really enjoying it. I think Topre have just become my favorite switches.

The ergonomics of the keyboard are also excellent—it makes me feel like I could type on it all day comfortably.

The one thing I’m disappointed in is the placement of the function key and the arrow keys when using the function layer. Coupled with the HHKB’s inability to be programmed beyond a single layer, it’s a bit of a letdown. Sure, I probably should have done more research—but I picked up the keyboard in near-mint condition for just $100 (taxes included) from MechMarket, and I really wanted to experience the fanfare for myself.
