Stage Manager
I am curious if anyone actually uses Stage manager. I forced myself to use it on my work mac, either I am using it incorrectly or it just is a half baked feature.
Also on the macbook pro 13(M1 16Gig RAM), the performance when the stage manager is enabled is sub par. The experience isn’t smooth and animations tend to be laggy. A simple swipe up gesture to expose all apps and workspaces tends to be slow.
Age of AI and the need to be explicit
AI is here to stay whether you embrace it or not. You are part of the AI train. Of late, I am noticing more and more blog posts where the footer section either has a “not by AI” logo or there is mention by the author that “this post was written by human”.
And this is not only limited to writing, it transcends to every creative field known to us(art, music, and the list is only growing).
This reminds me of the organic labelling of food, food that should be organic to begin with is now being labelled organic and sold for higher markup. Also heard something similar along the lines on Cal Newport’s podcast where he says slow productivity is how it should be but we now have to label it this way.
Sunsetting non USB-C cables
I don’t know how long it would take before we actually stop having cables that in some form use USB-A or microusb. Sadly I have accessories that use micro usb and there aren’t replacements for it that come in USB-C.
There are a lot of industries that are playing catching up that I fear by the time USB-C becomes prevalent, the tech would have moved on to a newer standard.
Cherry MX2A
Cherry released their mx2a series(late last year) which supposedly is an enhancement over their existing switches(better spring geometry, dome geometry and lubricated). I am tempted but also skeptical. Given that the market is filled with existing cherry mx I don’t how I would tell a cherry mx2a apart from the regular cherry mx(part of what is actually preventing me from trying these out). Another reason is I am not really sure if the improvement is worth upgrading.
Valentine week
I was hoping to replace my planck rev 6(nothing really wrong with it, just my itch to have both my plancks be the latest) with rev 7 if drop had a deal on the planck, sadly no love for shoppers from Drop during valentine week.
Apple maps is really great
First impressions are everything. I get a surprised look from people when I say I like or use Apple Maps. Apple maps shows you the lanes that need to be taken for the exit(I am not sure if it does in all the countries/cities but I see it in California). A very subtle yet great QOL feature.
Had the longest commute time
It took me about 3 hours to get from my office in South SanFrancisco to San Jose on a Wednesday evenig. ~50 miles 3 hours 💀
Because of the stop and go, standstill nature of traffic I went on waze on Apple Car(after a long time) to report traffic and other events, needed to find ways to keep me from boredom and using my phone.
Changed the Wipers after 5 years
After 5 years of mazda ownership, time has come to change the wipers. 2 years helped by not having to commute or use my car that much. But with the recent rains in California, it was time. The windshield was smudgy after the wipers did a poor job.
And to my surprise it was really simple to change the wiper blades, took about 5 minutes. Obviously with help from Youtube.
James Altucher podcast
Podcasts have been a cornerstone to my commute. I have followed and unfollowed many podcasts over the years for various reasons. The one podcast that I have been a regular to, is the James Altucher show. I just enjoy this podcast that much. It was also the first podcast I subscribed to and been the one I have been listening since I got into podcasts.
Clash Of Clans
Finally I am getting to a point where part of my troops are at max level. Which means that I am at a point of 2 starring TH16 bases comfortably(most of the time).
Apple Airpods Pro 2 - request
I would really love to see a notification on my phone when my airpods pro have finished charging. Not sure why this isn’t a thing yet? Hope Apple releases a software update for this.
GH command line
Recently GH cli has become a regular for my development workflow. It allows me to be able to create a PR from cli and script my coding process.
gh pr create -B main -H <branch_name>
Cars
After 18 years since its launch, the shelves that host cars related merch always seem to empty up quickly in Target. And on that note after many months I was finally able to get Doc Hudson mattel car for my son. Boy is doc famous.
tiimo
Another week another productivity app. Tiimo is pretty much like structured. But it had the improvements that I wanted to see in structured, mainly the ability to increase the time in task. If I had a task planned to take 15 minutes but it takes me couple of extra minutes I can add to it without having to edit the task. It is a really nice and polished app. But then again it comes with many bells and whistles that I really didn’t fancy. Still sticking to my productivity trio (calendar.app, notes.app, reminders.app).
Watched Saba Nayagan(Tamil Movie)
Really enjoyed this movie. Light hearted, good entertaining movie.
Through the lens
Internet Heat Map
- The simplest custom Hakyll compiler
- Calendar Versioning Didn’t know it was actually a thing #TIL. Despite knowing that ubuntu’s releases have always been YY.MM and YY.MM, never really thought it to be an actual convention.
