UX fail

Every time I’m up for renewing my domain, I get thrown into a familiar dilemma - should I renew or get creative and find a new name?

“arkoinad.com”1 was starting to feel like a stupid domain name, as it always does when I decide I want to get a new domain for myself. So I stopped my renewal on porkbun and in doing so I also deleted my porkbun account.

User experience gone wrong! With around 36 days left before my domain expired, I would have expected an error message preventing me from deleting my account while I still had active services. Sadly, Porkbun allowed it. Fortunately, I was able to reach out to support and get my account reinstated.

Back to firebase, and saving $4/month on hosting.

One of the reasons I hosted my blog on DigitalOcean was to tinker with nginx access logs and build a custom visitor counter to display on the site.

Surprise, surprise that never happen.

So, I am back to hosting on firebase, until I find a limitation that could only be solved by self hosting.

I briefly considered migrating to WordPress’s free tier, but the lack of a proper Markdown-to-WordPress importer made the decision to return to Firebase an easy one.
