4 plancks later…
I have assembled 4 plancks - surprisingly or shamefully I didn’t question what the different screws and accessories for assembly of planck were, until now.
I jumped back to planck(and colemak) because I just miss it. Having sold all plancks as part of moving to Apple accessory I decided I would be little conservative with my spending and so I decided to get planck off ebay. And even though the worst didn’t happen I received planck rev7 but with the screws between the plate and the pcb missing. The keyboard was poorly assembled with the plate and pcb screwed together, causing the switches to come off easily.
This was the anti-engineer moment, because I assembled 4 plancks and yet never once bothered to learn what the individual screws were called. Taking a picture of the screw and google-ing or asking chatgpt failed. And the worst part was that even drop’s website doesn’t specify what the screws were called. I felt stupid because I didn’t know the name of the thing that I wanted to purchase and without that it was really hard to find it.
Eventually, I learned that the screws I was looking for were called standoff spacers. The specification is M2x3.5mm hex standoff spacer. They weren’t available at any hardware stores—I tried Ace Hardware, Lowe’s, and Home Depot.
I finally got it from - Ebay Link
Had it not been for misfortune of getting a planck without the missing standoff I would have never learned what they were called or why they are required.
