QWERTY Reigns

Typing at 12wpm to 20wpm in Dvorak, in the hopes of finding a better keyboard layout came to crashing halt.

The excitement of trying a new layout carried me away from the rationality of why I left Colemak and got back to QWERTY.

Every beginning brings with it a hope, and so did Dvorak. Having gone through the ordeal of learning an alt layout, I didn’t find Dvorak’s key position changes hard at all. Admittedly, I did take it slow this time around. Nothing irrational like going cold turkey like I did with Colemak.

Few additional thoughts after typing in Dvorak on Alt keyboard layouts

Alt layouts seem promising because, you start fresh each time. So the bad typing habits accumulated gets unlearned.

It feels comfortable because you have to slow down and in doing so it gives time for your fingers to move in a natural way to the next key instead of rushing it. Try deliberately slowing down in QWERTY and you may find it feels surprisingly comfortable too¹.

Yet another layout, still the same reasons to stick to QWERTY.
